About Mitch Grigoriev, our major translator & interpreter: Russian/English/Japanese

Mitch has a very impressive background of working as a translator/interpreter. He first started interpreting when he was in his undergraduate and graduate studies and received a scholarship to go and study in Japan for lengthy period of times. After graduating from the Moscow State University, Department of Asian and African Studies, he worked at TBS Broadcasting Company Moscow station covering various subjects of live interpretation and traveling across Russia and neighbor countries with crews of TV journalists. He specialized in TV interviews, news, sports and cultural events back then at the same time pursuing his academic development and working on ‘XX Century Japanese Literature’ dissertation to receive his PhD degree.

Upon graduating from Moscow State University with PhD in Japanese Literature. Mitch went to Japan to study at Waseda University in Tokyo, where he worked as a translator/interpreter for University of Tokai and NIPROS, and taught Russian at Meiji University.

He was the first one to translate the Constitution of Japan into Russian and the first one to translate several Japanese fiction novels into Russian. His translations were published and many of his articles appeared in famous Russian academic, scientific and periodical magazines and collections of published materials.

After he returned to Moscow Mitch worked fulltime as a Moscow University professor and part-time translator/interpreter for Nissho Iwai (Sojits), and other Japanese companies. Mitch was mostly engaged with the highest level of technical difficulty interpreting for specialists in fields of technology, banking, scientific research and engineering.

After studying at the Indiana University in the US on Fullbright Scholarship Mitch relocated to Vancouver, BC, with his wife and two children. Here he taught at the UBC as a Sessional professor and later started Yumica Translation and Interpreting company bringing together his vast and profound multicultural and professional experience and acquired technical knowledge.

Today Mitch remains the driving force and solid academic background for Yumica Translation and Interpreting company with focus on technical interpretation including negotiations, business talks and accompanying professionals and specialists during their trips to Canada.

Mitch is also incredibly resourceful when it comes to applying technology into routine work of a translator, and today we can say that Yumica Translation and Interpreting is a company with highest standards of quality and efficiency and advanced level of technological application.

Mitch is fluent in Russian, English, Japanese and Spanish and his hobbies are computers, skiing, biking, and photography.
